對於許多處於危急狀態的病人來說，輸血可用以維持足夠的帶氧至身體各組織部位。血液製品的安全處理尤其重要，這些安全處理措施包括血液製品的採購、選擇、血型、捐血者和病人之間的血液交叉配對、適當的血液採集、血液處理、儲存、管理以及輸血其間的監測技術等等。任何一個步驟出現錯誤都可以導致嚴重後果。故此，血液製品和輸血期間的安全管理是獸醫護士的一項關鍵能力。

Blood transfusions are essential for many patients in critical conditions to maintain adequate tissue oxygenation. Safe administration of blood products requires loads of precautionary measures, including sourcing of blood products, blood typing, cross-matching between donor and recipient, appropriate blood collection, blood handling, processing, storage, and administration and monitoring techniques. Any of the steps that go wrong can lead to severe consequences. Ensure safe administration of blood products is a key competency for veterinary nurses.
